The Reading List Management System
The “Reading List” is a course list management system embedded into the Canvas learning management system (LMS), and tightly integrated with the ExLibris Alma and Primo library discovery service and RefWorks citation tool. Teachers can easily create lists of resources that include all material types, enabling the students to access all course materials in one place and from any device.
The “Reading List” works directly in Canvas to display course reserves for students. Instructors can:
- Create dynamic lists of citations from a range of sources
- Rollover reading lists for the next semester
- Discover open-access resources and link citations directly to the reading lists
- Monitor student engagement with course resources through the view analysis icon
- Provide opportunities to connect to students over reading item discussions
- Easily update content and reuse elements or duplicate whole lists for other courses
- Fully leverage library subscriptions to enhance learning affordability

- Increase access to the subscribed online databases, eBooks, eJournals and open educational resources (OER) listed by the instructor
- Access to full-text resources via the reading list citation link
- Access to the comprehensive reading list from the Canvas courses homepage
- Find all of their course readings in one place, recommend resources, and postcomments for discussion
